Mediaworks

What inspired you to start your sustainability journey?

A few years ago we recognised that we live in an era of extraordinary environmental and social challenges - unprecedented in scope, velocity, complexity, and interconnectivity. So we understand that as a business we must have the right structures, policies and processes – as well as the right information at the right time – to successfully navigate our sustainability journey. We recognise that sustainability is one of our priorities for our success.

What does your company do that makes a difference?

With our reach into homes and cars MediaWorks has the opportunity to influence the behaviour of New Zealanders across the country. We take full responsibility for operating in a sustainable manner and minimising our impact on the environment. As a business with relatively low carbon emissions, we have the opportunity to achieve ‘carbon zero’ much sooner than many other companies. This means that we ensure our teams

1. Comply with environmental laws and regulations.

2. Do their bit to reduce, reuse and recycle.

3. Support the use and procurement of the most energy efficient products and services.

4. Educate, support, and encourage others (including our suppliers) to adopt environmentally friendly practices.

We have also put in place a number of ESG initiatives - a Modern Slavery Reponse, the Greenworks Team, and Emission Reduction work with Toitu to name a few.

Where would you see change in the future?

Our journey has just started but we have a roadmap of activities that we want to implement. This roadmap includes working with our supply chain partners to manage and measure material environmental and social and governance issues, especially greenhouse gas emissions.
