Radio Wānaka: Wao Climate Action Initiative x Wild Wire
Laurel Morrison, owner at Wild Wire Wanaka, featured on Radio Wānaka to discuss the Wao Climate Action Initiative. Laurel signed up Wild Wire to the pilot program in 2021, with Laurel noting “I actually tried to do a few calculations on my own and it was just complicated and too hard basket, so when this came up, it was really interesting to us, so I leapt on it.“
Laurel speaks about why she wanted to be part of the programme: “to know what our impact is. […] to know where we stand, and to know our number. So just more of a bench mark, to know what our business is contributing to greenhouse gases.”
Having completed the programme, Laurel says that “it wasn’t as hard as I thought, and the team at Wao who put it all together, they just broke it down into manageable chunks and helped us work it out in a way that was way easier than I thought.”
The Wao Climate Action Initiative is a 3 month program designed to enable local businesses and schools with the knowledge and tools to calculate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and take action to reduce them. The program is fully funded by QLDC, Destination Queenstown and Lake Wanaka Tourism and is free to join. Applications for the first round have now been filled.
