Daryl Gellatly, Associate Principal for Te Kura O Take Kārara Primary School, featured on Radio Wānaka to discuss the Wao Climate Action Initiative (CAI).

Take Kārara are among 11 schools that recently attended a Wao x Enviroschools Change Hui this week. They have also completed their greenhouse gas footprint with Wao as part of the Wao Climate Action Initiative. When asked why they think it is important for schools to be involved in an initiative like this, Daryl says “ultimately they're going to be looking after us one day, and we're leaving the world to them, which isn't perhaps in the best shape we've done. But we hope that what they learn and what they get passionate about, it really follows through. It’s great working with kids around this sort of thing, the energy and passion around the topics is really, really inspiring”.

The Wao Climate Action Initiative is a 3 month program designed to enable local businesses and schools with the knowledge and tools to calculate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and take action to reduce them. The program is fully funded by QLDC, Destination Queenstown and Lake Wānaka Tourism and is free to join. Applications for the first round have now been filled.
