John Glover, Kinloch Wilderness Retreat, featured on Radio Wānaka to discuss the Wao Climate Action Initiative (CAI). John participated in the 2021/2022 CAI programme, and has been incredibly active. Why did they join the programme? John noted that “the fact that it was run by a not-for-profit was really important to us, and we are very supportive of Wao and their purposes.” John has found the programme useful from a business perspective. Despite already being environmentally conscious, he noted that the programme is helpful for setting your businesses greenhouse gas base-line, “we also thought it would be good to see how we stack up compared to other people, but the reality is its your number. It’s the impact of your business.”

The Wao Climate Action Initiative is a 3 month program designed to enable local businesses and schools with the knowledge and tools to calculate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and take action to reduce them. The program is fully funded by QLDC, Destination Queenstown and Lake Wanaka Tourism and is free to join. Applications for the first round have now been filled.
